Kevin Sites has been shut down

Distressing. According to Kevin Sites, a CNN cameraman who was blogging from Iraq, he's been shut down by CNN. I don't know why -- perhaps he was taking too much time from his real job -- but it's a shame. And it shows why it's important to get independent, reader-funded journalists out there. As I said in my trip update last night, I'm looking to ship out Wednesday and hope to be in-country by next weekend. Any extra, last-minute donations are most welcome.

sorry but, what’s the GMT times of this blog ? ( i’m in Belgium ..) tanx

Chris, i have one question for you.

Do you think that the governments of the USA, UK and others coutries have influence on the news such as TV and internet? How much do you think the government can interfer in the news?

hi chris - am happy to hear u’re going.

please post everything and post a lot of pics. (and pls tell us who asked kevin sites to suspend blogging from there and why).

AND BE CAREFUL FORGODSSAKE!!

Take care… I’m just listening to reports on ITN’s Terry Lloyd & his crew…

Hi, I am brazilian, Everybody in Brazil pray to to people of Iraq

Dear Chris,

Get out of Iraq fast because I predicted that there is something real big is going to happen.

I don’t know why people get angry because Usa, they do the usually, manage the world.

Good look from Uruguay

Hi Everybody:

I want to know if there is a site like this but IN SPANISH.

From Buenos Aires, Good luck and take care

Hi man,

I’m Colombian, I don’t war,

I accuse from the massacre to Bush (KILLER) and their mercenaries.

They don’t have pardon for that they make in IRAQ with the town.

That they say of human rights when they don’t respect anything.

Please it continues ahead with your reports and luck

A man more with fury to USA

I think that mass media of USA are doing what Bush want they do: show a part of the war. And woblogs are a good alternative to see “the other side”. I love the expression liberty and now i know that the information is a powerfull arm in this war. I am a journalist and the liberty is essencial for doing a good job and not lye to the public, journalists must say and show the trought, but now it seems to be impossible in the USA.

Ah, me olvidaba.

Hey, I see many desintelligence agents writing here.

I pray for Russia, North Korea and China to join against USA.

Is time to end the cowboy raid.

Now, Bush, I hope they crush you, if the propaganda-dominated citizens of USA doesn’t wake up first…

Where are the forgiven mass destruction weapons bush said iraq have? And why they insist in calling a liberation, when they are invading iraq?

WAKE UP americans, the enemy is on the white house and the big corporations, NOT in Iraq

Magrini:

HI, greetings from the beautiful island of Barbados. We down here in the caribbean have been keeping an eye on the recent events in Iraq I must say that there is a growing anti-american goverment sentiment over here, especially since lats week when the bush administration threatened the cariibean. The US goverment sent a message to caribbean leaders, telling them that the would see it as being against their interest, if any carribean leaders attended any U.N meeting that would vote against they presence in iraq. It has been said that sanctions were even threatened.

This bully approach only works against them. and it increases anti american feelings all over the caribbean. People who used to dream about going to the US now stupse and dismiss any ideas of doing so because of apparent US bully policy

Have any of you USA bashers ever lived or visited any other place but your stinking little miserable town, probably not. that is why you make comments about the USA. But i bet you would love to live her bunch of ignorants. By the way why don’t you post your real e-mail address. scared to hear the truth. here is mine love to chat and discuss your attitude towards the USA. and by the waqy i was not bored in the USA. I was born in Colombia so i think i know what i am talking about.

Actually, this is my email adress. Allow me to enlighten u, my kiss ass friend. For a bunch of "miserable ignorant usa bashers", We are rather educated. We don't swallow everything that is rammed down our throat. And no, i never had any cumpulsion to live in the US. That would be against everything i belive in. I can't criticise, then kiss ass. WE have our views about the iraq situation, and because of this u start calling us names. Who is the ignorant one?

The US by making such statements, as they did to caribbean leaders, encroaching on our soverignty, OUr ability to make decisions on our own. HOw would u like someone to hold your d**k for u, and tell u when and when not to piss?

As far as iknow, the majority of people i know are cancelling any trips they had planned to go to the us.the only people that really want to live in the us are the people who are caught up with the "Hollywood" USA.

INter-regional travel is now the big thing. It just ain’t safe where u are little man. SO if that makes us miserable, and ignorant…We will stay as such, for we strongly belive in freedom, not opression.

i am so fucking outraged at the hatred for the usa here. people are so sick. the enemy is the white house and not hussein? What kind of crack are you smoking? would you prefer Bush to be shot and Hussein to remain in power? what the fuck is wrong with you? War sucks but ANYTHING that happens in that war isn’t as bad as what Hussein DOES TO HIS OWN PEOPLE. No one, no nation ever in the history of the world has killed more Muslims than Saddam Hussein. he is a genocidal shit for brains who needs to be eliminated. the entire world should have decided this together. Sadly many didn’t give a shit for one reason or another. Now, finally, we’re going in and we’re getting rid of Hussein and his weapons and weapons programs. That is a very good thing. That is needed. An end result: Iraq’ll be more stable, oil money will be more useful for more people in Iraq, the regime’ll no longer be a threat to people’s lives.

God damn it, why is that so hard to understand?

Shouldn’t your nick spell ‘denial’?

I wonder, why is it so hard for the USA to understand that the world is not waiting for their so-called ‘way of life’ to be shoved down our throats?

Bush decided to go for revenge, trying to kill Saddam. Where did justice go? Who died and made Bush God??? How long does this have to go on before the American citizens realize, that once you accept your president to be judge, jury and executioner at the same time, you’ll soon be living in the same regime as the Iraqi people?

Civilisation means, not killing someone because you’re angry. Believing in justice, equality, humanity and the law. Not degrading yourself to the same level as people like Saddam.

While the coalition forces invade Iraq, getting killed in the process of removing the regime, US companies are dividing the country to make a shitload of money. Do you really believe that they will ever leave Iraq?

The American citizens seem to be brainwashed to a point where they actually believe the bullshit brought to them by the state censored propaganda network CNN.

You probably didn’t get to see the interview with a Iraqi doctor in a Basra hospital. He told the world that as much as he wanted Saddam to be removed, the thought of US troops invading and occupying his country disgusted him.

Personally, I would like to see both Hoessein and Bush hanging from a bridge.

For the people who live in another country and want to talk bad about the US, stay put. The US doesn’t need you to come visit us. For everyone else who wants to bad mouth the USA then move out. I hear a man has chartered a plane that will carry all the war opposers to Iraq. Everyone who talks about oppression needs to open there eyes and see what is going on around the world. We can talk about Iraq, or one of the many other countries where innocent people die everyday because of people like Saddam. FYI - for all the people who say that the US is to blame for 9/11 well I am not going to tell you where you can go, you are just plain sorry. Just remember action speaks louder then words and talk is cheap. Get off your butt and do something.

First of all, way to go “Proud to be an American”. I agree, if you have a problem with the US, stay in your on freakin country and I will stay in mine. But, people here have a right to say what they think and believe, if you speak up in Iraq, your whole family dies. Thats a good way to live, right?

I live a few miles from the American

About me

Hi there! Thanks for stopping in. I'm Christopher Allbritton, former AP and New York Daily News reporter. In 2002, I went stumbling around Iraqi Kurdistan, the northern part of Iraq outside Saddam's direct control, looking for stories. (Some might call it "looking for trouble.") In March 2003, I made it back in time for the war, becoming the Web's first fully reader-funded journalist-blogger. With the support of thousands of readers, we raised almost $15,000. You can read my dispatches here. It was one of the moments in journalism when everything worked. It was a grand -- and successful -- experiment in independent journalism. In 2004, I moved to Iraq, where I would spend the next two years. It was a raucous, scary and exciting place with a lot of news going on. But I've since moved on to Beirut and the wider region. I now report for a variety of outlets.
