Sorry for the lack of updates today. I was out purchasing supplies (MREs, camp meals, etc.) and other materials. Also, I got the sat-phone today and I have to say the Motorola 9505 is pretty freakin' cool. Found a cheap ticket to Istanbul and I'm now only waiting to tie up a couple of loose ends: fund transfers and the laptop, which comes Monday.
Tomorrow I'll have more updates.
Sorry for the update delays

About me

Hi there! Thanks for stopping in. I'm Christopher Allbritton, former AP and New York Daily News reporter. In 2002, I went stumbling around Iraqi Kurdistan, the northern part of Iraq outside Saddam's direct control, looking for stories. (Some might call it "looking for trouble.") In March 2003, I made it back in time for the war, becoming the Web's first fully reader-funded journalist-blogger. With the support of thousands of readers, we raised almost $15,000. You can read my dispatches here. It was one of the moments in journalism when everything worked. It was a grand -- and successful -- experiment in independent journalism. In 2004, I moved to Iraq, where I would spend the next two years. It was a raucous, scary and exciting place with a lot of news going on. But I've since moved on to Beirut and the wider region. I now report for a variety of outlets.

Won't you consider donating to support reportage from the Middle East? Your generosity directly feeds reporting costs such as visas, travel, fees and other expenses. I already have a bullet-proof vest, so no need to fund that.
Media Availability
If you'd like to book me for radio or TV appearances -- I'm experienced in both -- please contact my agency, Global Radio News, at + (0) 44 20 7976 5335. Thank you.

Hey… Best reguards for you from Brazil.
We are wainting for the end of the war so hopeless!
All the best for you (and your country!)!!!!
Watch out for the invading troops while you are over there. Some reports are saying that the British troops may have attacked the journalists killed today in Iraq today, or they may have been caught in crossfire. Here is a link:
British Fire May Have Killed Journalists
Hmmmm…I find it interesting that we haven’t captured Basra yet I guess. When there are only the lowly regular Iraqi army there. So, it appears to be surprising that there has been at times strong resistance. One has to wonder what will happen when faced with the elite forces like the Republican Guard. Things could get hairy, Saddam hopes it will. He hopes that his troops will defend Baghdad, and force the U.S. to fight in the streets.
All the best to you throughout the whole trip. I hope the war will end soon despite all bias reports from mainstream media.
Hope to hear something original from you in Iraq.
Greetings from Malaysia….
Hooray! It seems that a lot more people have contributed money now that they know that it’s going to something because you’re now definitely going to Iraq.
But what’s with these forums? They seem kind of dead. Ah well.
Anyway, http://reese.king-online.com/Reese20030321/index.php http://cryptome.org/mi6-mi6.htm and there’s going to be lots more of that in the actual fighting. Get this guy down there! We need an honest voice reporting! Not http://www.nthposition.com/politicspotter.html ! This could be the start of something big.
Oh, and watch out for http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2003/3/21/204417/838 the Turks.
Chris,
a friend in NYC recommends a Planet One sat-phone, which he says is the “best” you can get outside of the military. I know nothing about these gadgets, but you’d want to be sure your new phone isn’t affected too much by interference from clouds, duststorms, etc. and that it works through clear glass, both of which he admits even the Planet One falters on at times. Protecting yourself from EMP and HPM weapons may be a bit harder, though. Hopefully you never encounter those.
All the best. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. Looking forward to your dispatches.
To all the Iraqi citizens, that resist the new colonial, patronizing and imperialistic policies of the US regime, we pay our greatest respect, and pray to God to be giving you strength.
The invading ‘barbarians’ can occupy your Country, but cannot conquer your spirit.
May God bless you all.
Best wishes from Sydney Australia
Arthur.
