A wonderful time to pull together again as we did after the tragedy. We must put aside our differences, quit finger-pointing and fix the problem. It doesn’t so much matter how and why, or whose fault it was, but what are we going to do to stop this from happening again? We are all Americans and citizens of the world. It is time to come together, despite our differences, and solve this problem. Let their deaths not be in vain. We must remember always.

Freedom isn’t free.

It ought to be “In memoriam”, not “In memorium”. Memory used to be a “she-word” to the Romans.

D’oh. You’re right. Thanks Max. Fixed.

If we really want to fix the problem, it does matter how and why and whose fault it was so we can stop the problem from growing.

Sometime finger pointing is good especially when the pointing occurs when you look in the mirror…

Prevention would have been better than cure.

It seems obvious the US government was aware that attacks may happen, yet did nothing to prevent this awful situation.

Sure one can blame the terrorists, but how can your government not be partly held responsible for doing nothing to avoid 9/11 on the evidence they had?

you, americans, after your foreign policy, what could you expect from the rest of the world?ù

DKK-PKK

We could argue till the cows come home about whether American foreign policy directly or indirectly led to the attack but it won’t change the fact that the American people remain uninterested in the rest of the world unless it affects them directly. They have in effect given their government a mandate to do what it sees fit in the name of American interests and security. This is especially unfortunate since the US is the de facto “leader” in many respects, not the least as a champion of individual rights and freedom and its people do elect their government.

One can only hope that this occurs to us as we mourn our dead…

About me

Hi there! Thanks for stopping in. I'm Christopher Allbritton, former AP and New York Daily News reporter. In 2002, I went stumbling around Iraqi Kurdistan, the northern part of Iraq outside Saddam's direct control, looking for stories. (Some might call it "looking for trouble.") In March 2003, I made it back in time for the war, becoming the Web's first fully reader-funded journalist-blogger. With the support of thousands of readers, we raised almost $15,000. You can read my dispatches here. It was one of the moments in journalism when everything worked. It was a grand -- and successful -- experiment in independent journalism. In 2004, I moved to Iraq, where I would spend the next two years. It was a raucous, scary and exciting place with a lot of news going on. But I've since moved on to Beirut and the wider region. I now report for a variety of outlets.

Won't you consider donating to support reportage from the Middle East? Your generosity directly feeds reporting costs such as visas, travel, fees and other expenses. I already have a bullet-proof vest, so no need to fund that.
