Fund update and Air America

Wow. Thanks to some recent donations, the B2I 3.0 fund is less than $50 from $10,000. (It's at $9,950.24 to be exact.) This is great, especially since I spent $1,200 on ProMAX Tactical Body Armor from "BulletProofMe.com":http://www.bulletproofme.com (they're very helpful) over the weekend. Thanks everyone for "donating!":https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=chris%40back-to-iraq.com&%0Aitem_name=Reports+from+the+%0AMiddle+East+by+an+independent+journalist Also, you won't want to miss the "Majority Report":http://www.majorityreportradio.com/weblog/ tomorrow night on "Air America Radio":http://www.airamericaradio.com/. I will be on during the 8 p.m. EDT hour and "Atrios":http://atrios.blogspot.com/ will be co-hosting with Sam Seder. I will try not to be bitter about missing "Janeane Garofolo":http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000413/.

Chris, is “ProMAX Tactical” the brand of body armor that Rumsfeld isn’t supplying to the troops?

In any case, that sounds like $1200 very well spent.

Don’t know exactly what the troops are in need of, but the ProMAX is a kevlar vest rated for shrapnel and fragmentation and two ceramic plates (front and back) that increases protection to Level IV, which is rated for a 30.06 armor-piercing round. The guy at BPM said it could stop a sniper shot. (Which is handy.)

There are some men who own tuxedos. I’m going to be who owns tactical body armor. Heh.

Depending on your social circle, the latter may be more appropriate at some weddings. (Especially in Iraq, where apparently they fire AK-47s to celebrate.)

I chipped in to help push you over the top. Please tell Ayatollah Sistani I said “hi.” (And ask him to return that Girls Gone Wild tape I loaned him!)

That is one of the best $1,200 investments I’ve heard about.

Yesterday I set up an unofficial discussion board for Air America Radio called Air America Army. I set it up completely as a labor of love, and with the hopes that the intelligent discussion from this site and the Air America Radio blogs can continue.

There’s a discussion about Back to Iraq in the “Links” thread so Air America Users can come check out this site!

Thanks, and come check us out!

Thank you for information !

About me

Hi there! Thanks for stopping in. I'm Christopher Allbritton, former AP and New York Daily News reporter. In 2002, I went stumbling around Iraqi Kurdistan, the northern part of Iraq outside Saddam's direct control, looking for stories. (Some might call it "looking for trouble.") In March 2003, I made it back in time for the war, becoming the Web's first fully reader-funded journalist-blogger. With the support of thousands of readers, we raised almost $15,000. You can read my dispatches here. It was one of the moments in journalism when everything worked. It was a grand -- and successful -- experiment in independent journalism. In 2004, I moved to Iraq, where I would spend the next two years. It was a raucous, scary and exciting place with a lot of news going on. But I've since moved on to Beirut and the wider region. I now report for a variety of outlets.

Won't you consider donating to support reportage from the Middle East? Your generosity directly feeds reporting costs such as visas, travel, fees and other expenses. I already have a bullet-proof vest, so no need to fund that.
