London Blasts Claimed by Al Qaeda

Today's blasts in London have been claimed by Al Qaeda's European chapter, Qaeda't al-Jihad in Europe. A statement has been posted on a site often used by Qaeda agents, www.qal3ati.com. The statement follows (translated by one of my staff here in Baghdad):

Announcement on London's Operation 7/7/2005

Jamaat al-Tandheem Al-Sierri (secret organization group)
Organization of Qaeda't al-Jihad in Europe

In the name of God the most merciful...

Rejoice the nation of Islam, rejoice nation of Arabs, the time of revenge has come for the crusaders' Zionist British government.

As retaliation for the massacres which the British commit in Iraq and Afghanistan, the mujahideen have successfully done it this time in London.

And this is Britain now burning from fear and panic from the north to the south, from the east to the west.

We have warned the brutish governments and British nation many times.

And here we are, we have done what we have promised. We have done a military operation after heavy work and planning, which the mujahideen have done, and it has taken a long time to ensure the success of this operation.

And we still warn the government of Denmark and Italy, all the crusader governments, that they will have the same punishment if they do not pull their forces out of Iraq and Afghanistan.

So beware.

Thursday 7/7/2005
Jamaat al-Tandheem Al-Sierri (secret organization group)

Very perceptive.

And most interesting information.

My heart goes out to the people of London. Living in Amsterdam, I’d like to think we’re off the hook, as Dutch forces have already pulled out of Iraq. But the reality is that madmen will always find a pretext for barbaric acts….

BTW: Does this qualify as your first major scoop, Christopher?

There are many London bloggers constantly updating about the terrorist attacks in London. I am collating the most informative links, so feel free to add new sites to the comments and I’ll update.

“And this is Britain now burning from fear and panic from the north to the south, from the east to the west. “

Just for the record - and not suggesting you’d endorse this statement, obviously! - no, we’re not. We’re really, really not. We’re shaken up and horrified and deeply saddened, but afraid? Not so that you’d notice. As one British blogger has put it (contrasting the reactions to two incidents of transport disruption, one caused by bad weather & the other by an IRA bombing):

Yes, we’ll take an excuse for a day off, throw a sickie. But you threaten us, try to kill us? Kill and injure some of us?

F* you, sunshine.

We’ll not be having that.

No grand demonstrations, few warlike chants, a desire for revenge, of course, but the reaction of the average man and woman in the street? Yes, you’ve tried it now bugger off. We’re not scared, no, you won’t change us. Even if we are scared, you can still bugger off.

I think its sad that people only think that the so called A Qaeda are doign it for no reason…the point of it all is to show people that the bristiash goverment are going into countries and killing innocent people that we dont hear about and expect everything to go well in their own country! am not saying its right what they did but it should be noted….

Was Saddam Hussein one of these “innocent people” you mentioned? Their reasons are based more in religious hatred than any sense of justice, a concept that seems foreign to them.

Thanks for the translation. I have added it to my liveblogging…

The claim has been pulled from the source website by administrators, who questioned its authenticity. One, perhaps minor discrepancy: an analyst I’ve talked to noted that past claims of resonsibility have made appeals to Islamic nations but not usually, as this one does, to Arabic nations as well.

“I think its sad that people only think that the so called A Qaeda are doign it for no reason…”

Hmm. I’m well aware of the reasons, thanks. (See this post and the second comment on it:

http://yorkshire-ranter.blogspot.com/2005/07/blair-gets-his-iraq-reward.html )

Now, that statement - assuming for the moment that it’s genuine - talks about “retaliation for the massacres which the British commit in Iraq and Afghanistan”. Personally I don’t think the British army should be in Iraq or Afghanistan, and I certainly don’t think they should be committing massacres out there. So how should I feel about mujahideen coming to Britain and committing massacres in my own country? “It was wrong when we did it to your people, so you’ve got every right to do it to us”? I don’t think so.

“Yes, you’ve tried it, now bugger off. We’re not scared, no, you won’t change us. Even if we are scared, you can still bugger off.”

Bzzzzzzzz…crap effort Laden, your really not very good at this whole master terrorist jobbie are you?

Dont despair mate, it was a flop, where not impressed but we will torture you anyway.

Anybody know when Tesco reopens?

Regards,

Cockney lass.

Al Quaeda have also just killed the Egyptian Envoy to Iraq - I’m assuming you’re working on that Chris? It’s a bit difficult to find anything out about anything other than the London Bombings in the UK right now.

Here’s the link to the Egyptian assasination report:

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/050707/325/fmv1c.html

Take care, all of you in London. We’re thinking of you, even way over in North Dakota, USA…

THAT’S IT. NOW THEY’VE GONE AND GOTTEN ME ANRGY. WE KNOW WHERE THEY’RE AT, THEY’RE IN DAMASCUS, AND TO THE NORTH SOUTH EAST AND WEST SOMEWHAT. WE HAVE TO GO IN AND FINISH THE JOB WE STARTED. SADDAM’S THUGS ARE IN SYRIA AND IRAN COORDINATING ATTACKS AGAINST US IN IRAQ. WE KNOW AL QADA IS IN IRAN…. WHO DO YOU THINK DID THIS? AL QADA. WHERE DID THEY LAUNCH FROM? SYRIA OR IRAN WE HAVE TO FINISH THE JOB. GOD BLESS ENGLAND FOR STANDING WITH US AGAINST THE TERRORISTS INSTEAD OF THE COWARDS LIKE FRANCE.

I cannot condone these attacks on innocent people by crazy people. I cannot condone either the attack on 100,000 innocent Iraqis by crazy people either. Too many people are dying now in revenge for the killing of too many people who died for Bush’s war.

I hope they find the culprits quickly so other innocent people in Iran or Syria don’t have to pay, given the sort of comments posted here. Blood doesn’t wash away blood.

These bastards came close to killing my sister. I AM SO ANGRY. RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIM

Regarding the post by a clearly delusional Tamzin…you must be out of your mind! It is precisely your train of thought that encourages these madmen. Rather than denouncing the attack you state that you “cannot condone”.

My question is this, what can you not condone? A free Iraq? or British soldiers putting their lives on the line to save truley innocent Iraqis from brutal suppresion (ie. lopping off their heads)? I am truly infuriated that you would compare these cowards that bombed London with the brave soldiers in serving in Iraq by classifying them all as “crazy people”.

Tamzin, why don’t you just sit down and keep your yap shut? People like “you” have never brought freedom to anyone, anywhere in the world. I can’t condone…I can’t condone….you say as you pace the floor wringing your poor little hands….Oh, woe is me…. why don’t we all just hold hands and have a big concert? yeah, that’ll solve all the ills of the world….let’s have a CONCERT!! I hope for your sake and ours you grow up soon. People like you are the problem, not the solution.

so glad to hear Londoners are not shaking in their boots as Al Queda claims.

Our hearts go out to all. There is a generation, probably now grandparents, who lived through the horror of bombs being droppped by Germany and now are living through this.

Tamzin is of the mindset that fuels the terrorists.

The only hope to redefine the middle-east is just what coallition forces have done - built schools, hospitals - taken out a murderous dictator - so the people can have the freedoms of the British and Admercians. Beheadings, hijackings and slaughter went out withthe Barbaric era. The middle-east can join the 21st century with the rest of the globe - thanks to the brave.

should anything be read into the United States being left out by name?

Mike, Wendy, Caroline, et al.

So free people acting free, not marching in a straight line like lemmings, free people engaged in the difficult free kind of self-examination that totalitarians and thugs and terrorists hate…these are the people who embolden terrorists? And those who just strap on the gun and give in to blind vengeance, they’re the ones making things better?

Just curious.

Why would they need to worry about us. We’re the most scared of all. They have nothing to prove here anymore. In one miracle shot, they killed almost a hundred times the number they did in London today. They already have us going broke, losing cred, and terribly divided. They don’t need to do another thing here. They could, certainly, anyone could. But strategically nothing would be served.

Poker,

Why would they need to worry about the U.S. in this missive? We’re already the most scared of all. They have nothing to prove here anymore. In one miracle shot, they killed almost a hundred times the number they did in London today. They already have us going broke, losing cred, our military dwindling, and terribly divided. They don’t need to do another thing here. They could, certainly, anyone could. But strategically nothing would be served.

oops, sorry for the double post.

Responding to the drivel spewed by Dadler reminds me of my son when he was younger. He would cover his eyes with his hands thinking no one could see him if he couldn’t see them. Apparently you haven’t woken up to reality as of yet, and I’m certain your ignorance must be blissful. Enjoy it while it lasts Quisling!

Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka said this in his collection of lectures, “The Climate of Fear”:

“The fanatic that is born of this dogmatic structure of the ineffable, religion, is the most dangerous being on earth.”

[…]

“The tributaries that feed the cesspool of fanaticism may ooze from sources separated by history, clime, and race…but they arrive at the same destination — the zone of unquestioning certitude…”

Clearly the $200 bil we’ve spent in Iraq, at the expense of tens of thousands of Iraqis dead and nearly 1800 Americans too, hasn’t reduced the threat of terrorism by religious fundamentalists.

I’m not a religious person. In fact I have no “faith” — I’m a practicing zen buddhist — so I don’t pray. But I am thinking about our friends in London and hoping they can make it through this day.

Peace to everyone —

Caroline - What schools? What hospitals? Perhaps in the green zone & fox news. The ‘coalition’ is being used as nothing more than a security force for a corporate orgy lubricated by greed, tax payers money, and the blood of up to 75% civilian deaths.

“Hit ‘em where they ain’t!”….Oft quoted Civil War ( and General MacArthur) statement. Most London cops up in Scotland looking after G8 elites.

Gee, bullying isn’t quite so much fun when the victim hits back .

What a difference a day makes. Jubilation as perfidious Brits beat the old enemy France and NY in battle to host Olympic Games one day. Buckets of blood and tears the day after.

Condolences to families of the fallen and injured. It’s always the innocent that have to pay the price. That goes for both sides in any conflict. The elites just make money. Thats what war is all about.

Still of the opinion that “democratizing” the Middle East is a Bush wet dream. Just breeding a new bunch of terrorists in Iraq. And what a great place to cut your teeth on new tactics against the best. Opportunities galore!

Probably more of yesterday’s carnage still to come. Well you reap what you sow.

Tamzin is not the mindset that fuels the terrorists because the terrorists have been fueled already by the mindset that killed innocent people in Iraq. They say so!

Read what they say…..

Does the notion you reap what you sow not exist? How dare you kill innocent people in Iraq and not feel a thing but cry when 40 people die in London? It is the US/UK military that tortured as much as Saddam did. Saddam and Bin Laden, by the way are fine, but innocent lives have paid for this. I don’t think Iraq is free and Caroline, there were hospital,s schools, homes, in Iraq prior to the US invasion. Did you ever see Baghdad? You are talking drivel about a land and people you know nothing about because you have never seen it and believe what the politicized media tells you.

Spain did the right thing. They pulled out their troops and they have not suffered anything since.

Wasn’t it Bush who was going to make the world a safe place if he invaded first Afghanistan and then Iraq? The world has never been less safe! What happened? I believe that when you kill someone’s child, they do get angry. So how much revenge for revenge are we all willing to take? This is how World Wars start and the next one is going to be BIG. Stop this call to violence on all sides and stop insinuating that anyone wanting peace is pro-terrorism. That is rhetoric and has no sense in reality. I don’t want anyone’s children dying or their sisters or brothers and I don’t want people in Iraq, Iran and Syria or Palestine dying either. This is called being a human being and not someone “fueling the terrorists”.

Where do people get such stupid ideas?

Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, Saddam has continued to produce them, he has existing and active military plans for the use of chemical and biological weapons, which could be deployed within 45 minutes

Trust me.

Tony Blair.

As I have said throughout, I have no doubt that they will find the clearest possible evidence of Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction

Trust me.

Tony Blair.

One would have thought that credit for an operation such as this would have been published on the official Al Quida website rather than on something new.

Was this really one of their operations?

Could the IRA have reactivated?

Obviously Muslim folks in the UK are going to come under a lot of scutiny from the police and intelligence agencies with a lot of public pressure upon them to get a result.

Let’s not have another fit up from a police force taking the attitude that anyone will do.

Remember the Guildford Four?

Remember the Birmingham Six?

That you were Irish was good enough. You were in the frame. Who needs evidence? Like a medieval witchhunt!

Are we going to see more renditions of Muslims to places like Egypt for interrogation?

BLOOD HAS BEEN SPILT ON ENGLANDS GREEN AND PLEASENT LAND, NOW THE EMPIRE IS RISING AGAIN AND MUSLIM BLOOD WILL FILL THE GUTTERS OF ENGLANDS STREETS!!!

IRA usually give prior notification together with a codeword jimbo. Don’t rule out a black flag operation to shore up waning support for so-called “war on terror”. Take your pick of prime suspect agencies. Hitler began a war against Finland by having German artillery shell a German village then blaming the Finns. The Israelis carried out an attack on the USS Liberty probably with White House prior knowlege in order to have Arabs blamed and give US excuse to intervene. Ordinary people are only pawns in politics and don’t count for much except at election time. Also possible that some British right wing nationalist group were the perpetrators in order to make al quida and muslims the scapegoats. Politics is a dirty game and anything is possible and anything goes.

What exactly is so upsetting in Tamzin’s words? She has as much right as any of us to make a statement, and though we don’t all have to agree with it, or disagree with it, or approve of it or not, we can at least be courteous to and respectful of one another - can’t we? Why is everyone jumping down her throat for giving her opinion in her own choice of words?

I will be in Assscrackidstan in a a few short moments… I hope to see see and destroy you there…home land or not. your brothers in Iraq were quite unsuccesfull, See you soon ..you should pray……..

Scout American

BBC carried a commentary from Iranian state radio blaming Israeli intelligence for the London bombings…made alot of sense since Israelis are just as crazy (with fear of Arab threats against them) as al Qaeda types are in their attempts to establish a cause and power base. If , as some suggest that their intelligence operatives orchestrated 9/11 which worked in neutralizing the Taleban and Saddam, then it should work with Iran and Syria.

But speculating and blaming one side or the other isn’t going to solve anything; neither is suggesting the Illuminati , if they exist, are behind it.The whack on the head Blair got seems to have knocked some sense into him since he announced $3-billion in aid to Palestinians. Hopefully no more whacks will be required to have him take the lead in organizing a fund to fully . . compensate Palestinians for all the properties they lost plus generous “resettlement” costs, enough to make them welcome economic refugees anywhere in the world This can be financed by collecting a dollar/barrel from the world’s oil production. The way the price bounces about, no one going to notice it. Of course Israel has to “pull back” to its ‘48 borders which have to be guaranteed by the international community.

About the person above speaking about “Germany starting a war with Finland”. You realize of course that Finland for finland to shell a German village they’d need a really big cannon, right? It is not as if they share a land-border or anything.

Furthermore, Germany did not exactly declare war on Finland during WWII either.

I am finding that this blog is very odd. There is one guy/girl saying he/she is going to spill Muslim blood and another is going to Asscrackistan to kill some people and no one on this blog calls them terrorists! If someone had written that Jewish or Christian blood was going to pay, a lot of you would be accusing them of “fueling the terrorists” if not being terrorists themselves. I wonder if this isn’t the kind of mindset that is leading all to violence?

What is truly frightening is the number of people who are believing the media and are ready to blame the whole Muslim/Arab world for any terrorist acts without having even waited for an investigation. I can see the same scenario that started WWI, and WWII and now WWIII. It was always easy to target and blame a shadowy group or some ethnic group and then have an excuse to invade and bomb countries. Has mankind learned nothing?

WWI started with the Duke Ferdinand assasination and WWII started with the excuse of the Reichstag Fire and now WWIII is starting with the excuse of 9/11. Obviously racism is the key to starting any war. No one said to bomb Ireland because of the IRA or to bomb Italy because of the Mafia or the Red Brigade or bomb Germany because of the Bader Band or Montana because of Timothy McVeigh. So far, there is a higher death toll caused by the US/UK joint effort than by any group of terrorists. So when is the world supposed to be safer according to Bush and Blair?

When Empire and Scout American have either died or killed, I suppose? Now I see how easy it was for Hitler to convince Germans to kill Jews! Just as easy as it is to convince Bush and Blair voters to kill Afghanis, Iraqis and Iranians and Syrians. How many billions have to die before we go back to respecting international laws?

Tamzin has a point!!!!

someone on this blog got his history a bit muddled …. the winter war was actually fought between finland and the soviet union….the incident described was acurate however…..one beer too many pal….adolf not to blame for this one….won’t demote you back to third grade for this lapse but make sure your brain is in gear next time before you start punching those keys….makes everything else you write a bit suspect

Before blaiming foreign countries for the attacks I would propose to look into your own.

Check this thread: http://www.alciada.net/viewtopic.php?t=117

Was it a coincidence that two of the main 9/11 actors namely Bush and ex mayor Giuliani of NY were both in country at the time or does disaster just hang around this pair like a bad smell. Hmmm.

They downgraded the security threat before the G8 meeting.

Trying to impress the olympic committee ?

High-low explosives i.e. Big small bombs exploding simultaneously or not, your guess is as good as mine.

Blame Moslems, islam and Al-Quida when you have NO information.

Watch these people very carefully.

I don’t think Spain was targeted because of their troop presence in Iraq. I have read a bunch of theories that say Spain’s current stationing of troops in Morocco had more to do with it.

But you can bet OUR presence in Iraq was one major trigger in these bombings. Thanks Tony..

Yeah, good one Tony!

Well, so far in the UK the latest news is it was done by British Nationals.

3 of the bombers beleived to have been killed in the blasts (first for suicide bombers in the UK) came from Leeds.

The feeling in the UK is that they were “homegrown” “terrorists” rather than people entering the country recently.

So no need to blame Syria or Iran and go piling in there with bombs.

My condolences go out to all families & friends of victims in this terrible attack.

BOMBS-SAFEST PLACES

FROM THE SAFEST PLACES

COME THE BRAVEST WORDS

I’m annoyed with all the nationalistic, pride-filled, chest thumping from ‘leaders’ on our/MY behalf in the wake of the London bombings.

Such soundbites as ‘we won’t change our way of life’ and ‘we’ll be back at work tomorrow as normal’. Aren’t they missing something there ?.

If i was surrounded by state of the art technology and people to detect a terrorist threat, then fine. I’m sure i would go about my daily business as usual.

How many of the bigwigs quoting the great British spirit had to go home on a bus or train ?. Instead the mode of transport for them was a convoy of cars ( some armour-plated ) or helicopter etc. For them no fearful glances at strangers or moving away from luggage left lying around.

It’s easy to spout defiant words when you are heavily protected. In this war on terror, WE ARE NOT.

Maybe we should ask why so many are willing to kill or be killed.

About me

Hi there! Thanks for stopping in. I'm Christopher Allbritton, former AP and New York Daily News reporter. In 2002, I went stumbling around Iraqi Kurdistan, the northern part of Iraq outside Saddam's direct control, looking for stories. (Some might call it "looking for trouble.") In March 2003, I made it back in time for the war, becoming the Web's first fully reader-funded journalist-blogger. With the support of thousands of readers, we raised almost $15,000. You can read my dispatches here. It was one of the moments in journalism when everything worked. It was a grand -- and successful -- experiment in independent journalism. In 2004, I moved to Iraq, where I would spend the next two years. It was a raucous, scary and exciting place with a lot of news going on. But I've since moved on to Beirut and the wider region. I now report for a variety of outlets.

Won't you consider donating to support reportage from the Middle East? Your generosity directly feeds reporting costs such as visas, travel, fees and other expenses. I already have a bullet-proof vest, so no need to fund that.
