More Bloody Housekeeping...

BAGHDAD -- Jeeze. Switching servers is a pain in the ass. Anyway, people have complained that they're not getting notifications of new entries, etc. I'm using a plugin that allows you, dear reader, to manage your own subscriptions. (Yeah, I'm lazy. Sue me.)

In the transition, however, the notification list has been hosed. This is, in some ways, a blessing. There were many dead emails on there and people were getting notifications who didn't want to get them. Now, we have a clean slate. (Were that Iraq were so lucky.) This means that if you subscribed in the past and you still wish to receive new entries, you must re-subscribe.

If you want to subscribe to B2I as a whole and get emails when there is a new entry sign up through the subscribe link in the sidebar on the right. It's right over there. You can't miss it.

Additionally, if you want to follow a discussion in the comments on an individual entry, you can do that too. Just fill out the signup box at the bottom of each comment section. That will assign you only to that entry. This can be an additional subscription to the main blog.

Once you sign up, you will receive a confirmation email from notifications@back-to-iraq.com. You must click the confirmation link to confirm any of your subscriptions.

If you ever wish to remove yourself from any subscriptions, each notification email has a link to do so. You'll again have to confirm your opting-out, but I'm sure you'll be able to figure that out.

Let's hope this ends the tidying up around here.

Thanks, it works just fine now. I don’t know how you manage to slog through all the insults. My hat’s off to you.

I assume you’ve seen this, but if you haven’t… Official Says Shiite Party Suppressed Body Count

I have, but have been on deadline so haven’t blogged it. This is the story she probably should have written last week. But these things can take time.

Like the new design, and the changing picture.

Wellllll….. it’s different. And thanks to quixote I tried reloading several times just to see some of the changing banners.

Interesting……

The new look is great, Christopher - and now that I’ve resubscribed, I look forward to more postings. Best to you.

So this is a new look. Whats with the big blank on the right side ? Is it going to be an archive and pic catalog?

Airedale— Should be a sidebar with the normal content. Can you email me a screenshot about what you’re seeing? And let me know what browser and OS you’re using?

thanks, chris

If you have norton internet security installed you have to switch off ‘Block ads on this site’ or you will not see the new header.

Your new page is beautiful. Congratulations on that!

My comments seem to coming up under your name Chris. This is unintentional. I posted the above norton advice under the name Ruprect. At least I thought I did.

My Bad. I see the name is below not above. sorry once again.

good post. thanks for your perspective. without independant reporting it is harder and takes longer to address the issues.

About me

Hi there! Thanks for stopping in. I'm Christopher Allbritton, former AP and New York Daily News reporter. In 2002, I went stumbling around Iraqi Kurdistan, the northern part of Iraq outside Saddam's direct control, looking for stories. (Some might call it "looking for trouble.") In March 2003, I made it back in time for the war, becoming the Web's first fully reader-funded journalist-blogger. With the support of thousands of readers, we raised almost $15,000. You can read my dispatches here. It was one of the moments in journalism when everything worked. It was a grand -- and successful -- experiment in independent journalism. In 2004, I moved to Iraq, where I would spend the next two years. It was a raucous, scary and exciting place with a lot of news going on. But I've since moved on to Beirut and the wider region. I now report for a variety of outlets.

Won't you consider donating to support reportage from the Middle East? Your generosity directly feeds reporting costs such as visas, travel, fees and other expenses. I already have a bullet-proof vest, so no need to fund that.
