What is WRONG with these people?

I honestly wonder where these people misplaced their souls.

If I'm ever kidnapped, I guess I should expect no mercy from either my kidnappers -- or my fellow Americans.

Unbelievable! I am going to need help to push up my dropped jaw.
This woman has done everything she could to bring us news from Iraq by putting herself in harms way. She spends 3 months not knowing if she is going to live or die and this jerk opens his mouth and inserts both feet.
I am flabbergasted!

There attitudes are how and why it was so easy for Mr. Bush go to Iraq for a reason still unclear to more Americans.

Is it like… always opposite day in right blogistan?

“what’s good is bad, what’s bad is good…”

(Dylan said it best in “Idiot Wind,” referring to just those voices)

These heartless, mindless cowards never fail to sicken me either.

“soul” is not a word I associate with those pimply-assed pantywaist rat bastards.

There has been a wall of hate all day from the right from the moment Jill Carroll was released. I compiled some of this nasty filth together here at my site along with a tribute to Jill Carroll.

Read this, the email I sent to the presenter of that radio show.

Executive produce for Don Imus (Imus in the morning on MSNBC) Bernard McGuirk, and Charles McCord should probably both be banned from Radio.

They are uninformed and inflamatory.

Jill Caroll is a woman of high morale, she does NOT support killing or terrorism of any kind. Her friends and associates are NOT terrorists.

The facts in what both Mr McCord and Mr McGuirk said are INCORRECT. Jill Caroll does not wear a “berka” infact, in Iraq a Berka is a sign of extremism and are NOT commonly worn (maybe less than 1% of the female population would wear one and those are Salafi extremists, often from Saudi Arabia).

The headwear Jill wears is a simple Hijab, not disimilar from what is worn by nuns or other highly-religious person from nearly ANY religion.

The reason Jill is seen not to be talking badly about her abductors is plain and simple. A good level of knowledge about Iraqi society, and a little knowledge about Jill herself.

Will highlight the simplicity of the situation. Jill wants to stay in Iraq to continue her work and remain with her friends, to help them.

Those who abducted Jill are powerful members of a Sunni extremist group and can reach her again at any moment. Jill’s friends or any other person she associates with- can be put in danger from as much as a wrong word.

Both Mr McCord & McGuirk should be forced to make a public apology and should direct such an apology to Jill and her Iraqi friends, none of whome are the kind to strap suicide belts to themselves.

Two of Jill’s closest friends in Iraq are writers for my network: the “Olivebranch Network”. One of them was present last night to greet her upon her release with many tears and many hugs. The story will be up in the coming days. You can find our website here: http://olivebranchoptimism.net

Jill’s friends and associates deserve an apology, the thousands of people around the world who spent days praying for her safety, deserve an apology. Not to mention Jill herself.

THIS IS A SERIOUS EMAIL.

The conversation is available all-over the internet. Here is one link to highlight the comments I am reffering to: http://thinkprogress.org/imus-33006-transcript

Please respond to me with either of the following:

A) A PUBLIC apology from Charles McCord & Bernard McGuirk and a formal rebuttal of their comments. B) A damn good explenation as to how these comments are justified.

Failing any response, my personal blog, all of the bloggers involved in the Olivebranch Network and our close connections in the blogosphere (combined hits in the THOUSANDS every day) will be posting about these comments. That would not look good for you or for MSNBC.

Regards,

Luke J Skinner aka [olivebranch] - http://olivebranchoptimism.net

Lincoln I think said don’t pick fights with people who buy ink by the barrel…same could be said about dolts who have to fill three hours of air time every day….there is nothing of substance here …self agrandizement and fanning the flames in the cultural war…imho

Wat, That was Mark Twain’s quote, but on point.

They have no souls.

Well, it was Imus, after all, a program not exactly known for valuing moderation.

Their statements look all the more idiotic in light of JC’s statement today, where she condemned her kidnappers and confirmed her previous statements were made under coersion.

I’m afraid Ms. Carroll is suffering backlash from the statements last week of the Canadian pacifists after they were recovered, effectively saying they held their rescuers responsible for them getting kidnapped in the first place.

Bernard is hired by Imus to say outrageous things that many people think, even if only idly in the backs of their minds, but will not say. I’ve heard enough of Imus’ show over the years to say that I’d bet Bernard doesn’t even really believe it.

That said, I wasn’t sure what to think about all this. I don’t know Jill and really had only those propaganda movies to judge her by, but knowing that they were untrustworthy, I didn’t believe them, because I am not insane.

Now that Jill has come out and disavowed what she said while captive — including some of what she said immediately AFTER being freed, and not yet in American care: for example, she said she had never been threatened, which she now says is false — I’m perfectly willing to believe her, and I think most people are, too: she was scared and did what she had to do to get free and safe.

Don’t let the haters get you down.

Although, I am all for stringing up Debbie Schlussel. So now loving Arab culture and being a true believer of Arab causes makes you anti-American?

I guess I should not be surprised: it’s this sort of racism that was behind the death of the Dubai ports deal. She just gives a more clear and ugly face to it. She is one of those people that make those of us on the right look completely retarded, and I have significant negative feelings toward her, and many of her compatriots, for that.

I’m with Corrie and the other commenters: I need help to push my dropped jaw back up. Utterly unbelievable. In my most depressed dreams, I never could have imagined human beings capable of that.

I’m coming to the conclusion that we need to define decency, in the real sense, not the anti-sex sense, and then bring back something like the FCC decency standards. Garbage like that really shouldn’t pollute any public space.

Censorship is not what is needed. Let these freaks spew all they want. If this type of degraded commentary is what certain segments of the American public want, they should have it. It lets us know how large the nutbag population has grown.

Amen, tequila. quixote is entirely, totally, 100 percent off-base. We should let nutbags attack Jill Carroll as anti-American, and let other nutbags attack Bush as a Hitler-loving monkey.

Not much good will come out of it, though. It will only cause us pain in the short, and long, term. We don’t need to know these opinions and people are out there: we already know, and their continued publication will only cause greater animosity, division, fear, and so on.

However, we would experience far greater pain if we attempted to silence them.

And frankly, we will experience far greater pain if you pay any attention to them in the first place. Maybe it’s worth showing Schlussel is a moron a few times, but after that’s been shown, let it go.

I only know of her because people angry with her point me to her articles: the people who hate her are increasing her hits, and therefore her money. Remember The Simpsons: Just Don’t Look! Just Don’t Look! Just Don’t Look!

Same thing with BOR (Bill O’Reilly). Most people just ignore him these days, but the few who don’t are as bad as he is, like Keith Olbermann. Who ever heard of Keith Olbermann (I did, but who else?) before he became the anti-BOR? He used BOR’s own tactic against him, capitalizing on public outrage (over BOR, instead of a War on Christmas or whatever) to make himself a name.

There’s been two recent episodes with neo-Nazis in the Seattle region that made the news. These scum have gotten 1000 times the exposure they deserve, simply because people got angry and couldn’t just ignore them. That’s precisely what they want.

The assertion (on the excerpt) is that she is one of a group, one of a human social grouping or something like an ethnic group. The central assertion here is that of not touching the enemy group, or the “foreign.” It’s an attempt to divide. Thus, it is fundamentally an attempt at ethnic segregation. Anyone who is not “lily white” is subject to suspicion. What Imus’ co-host or guest or whoever they are are saying is that they want ethnic purity. What he is “absolutely certain” (see march 30: UPDATE 3/31/06 2:27:57 AM +0300 ) about is that he wants nothing to do with some outer or other person. The “other” is therefore held as a threat. The co-hostis saying “my group won’t mix with your group,” and then comes th necessity to identify who is “other.” Having said that, we should be clear that there are many persons like this in the U.S. and this excerpt gives us the opportunity to see and understand these persons. They want an ethnic (so to speak) group to identify with. My own opinion is that it may be important to understand these people. ANyway, I 3.0 already posted this stuff.

Basically, they want an ethnic (so to speak) group to identify with. And that is to some extent human. My own opinion is that it may be important for us to understand what is going on here with these attitudes. Anyway, I 3.0 already posted this stuff.

You’re such a cocksucker, if you ever get kidnapped, i hope you die just cause you’re an asshole.

Other the Immus, who does this to stir up people and boost his ratings; this is the Right-Wing hate machine in full cry. Jill Carroll is their current target for lack of anyone better. The Right Wing is desparate right now with the Iraqi Civil War becoming more evident and a definite lack of good news for Bush & Co. on any front. Ms. Carroll makes a good target because she works for a liberal newspaper, the Christian Science Monitor, which since the paper frequently criticizies Bush policy, particularly on Iraq means the paper and all who work for it, such as Ms. Carroll are a bunch of traitors or potential traitors. (Yes, Sen. Joe McCarthy’s Spirit Rides Again!) Particularly damming in the Right-Wing’s eyes is that Ms. Carroll before her kidnapping, wore Arabic style outfits including the hijab. To Right Wingers this showed Jill Carroll’s defection to the Islamic Enemy. That a White Woman would betray her people in such a way is nothing short of Racial Treason! This is why the Right Wing Hate Machine is such a foaming at the mouth frenzy at Ms. Carroll.

They only utter these inane things in order to have people talk about them and receive higher ratings/advertiser fees.

It’s all about God Money.

Anyone that is in a hostile zone cannot get a guarantee that nothing will happen to them! The terrorists do not adhere to any conventional rules of engagement, so ANYTHING GOES! But where’s the outcry by the Iraqi’s (clerics) for attacks on mosques and their own people?

About me

Hi there! Thanks for stopping in. I'm Christopher Allbritton, former AP and New York Daily News reporter. In 2002, I went stumbling around Iraqi Kurdistan, the northern part of Iraq outside Saddam's direct control, looking for stories. (Some might call it "looking for trouble.") In March 2003, I made it back in time for the war, becoming the Web's first fully reader-funded journalist-blogger. With the support of thousands of readers, we raised almost $15,000. You can read my dispatches here. It was one of the moments in journalism when everything worked. It was a grand -- and successful -- experiment in independent journalism. In 2004, I moved to Iraq, where I would spend the next two years. It was a raucous, scary and exciting place with a lot of news going on. But I've since moved on to Beirut and the wider region. I now report for a variety of outlets.
